2016 Land Rover Range Rover vs. 2016 Cadillac Escalade
2016 Land Rover Range Rover
2016 Cadillac Escalade
There are precious few full-size luxury SUVs that genuinely deserve their segment’s namesake. The 2016 Land Rover Range Rover is a standout by all considerations thanks to its world-class luxury features, high-performance powertrains, and outstanding off-road driving capabilities. The 2016 Cadillac Escalade is certainly a worthy competitor with lots of luxury and V8 power, but when it gets down to the details, the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover beats it out in some of the most important areas for luxury SUV drivers in Florida.
From power and fuel economy to a greater variety of powertrain options, the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover is clearly the better choice. The Land Rover Range Rover is offered with three different engine options, each of which comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a supercharged 3.0L V6 that makes 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 that puts out 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
Move up to the supercharged 5.0L V8, and you’ll get 510 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a sport-tuned version of the V8 engine that increases output to a staggering 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque, which helps this SUV move to 60 mph in only 4.7 seconds. The fuel-efficient turbo-diesel engine gets an EPA-estimated 29 mpg highway and 22 mpg city.
The only powertrain offered on the 2016 Cadillac Escalade is a 6.2L V8 engine that makes 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It takes the Escalade 6.1 seconds to reach 60 mph, and there’s no version that gets better than an EPA-estimated 22 mpg highway and 15 mpg city.
Both models are traditional SUVs with body-on-frame designs and the choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. When it comes down to off-road prowess, though, the 2016 Cadillac Escalade is no match for the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover. Unlike the Escalade, every Land Rover Range Rover comes with a Terrain Response system with special modes for the engine, transmission, suspension, and traction control for different on- and off-road surfaces.
Also unique to the Land Rover Range Rover is an active locking rear differential, a Terrain Response 2 system that automatically changes the settings for you based on road conditions, and an All-Terrain Progress Control system that automatically sets a low cruise control speed of up to 20 mph on difficult terrain.
