Both of these crossovers come standard with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine and an all-wheel drive system. However, the Land Rover Discovery Sport comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission whereas the 2017 Audi Q5 only gets an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, standard output on the Audi Q5 is 220 hp while the Land Rover model has a standard output of 240 hp.

Off-Road Prowess

Both of these crossover SUVs come standard with an AWD drivetrain, but the 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport provides drivers with significantly more off-road prowess than the competition. While the 2017 Audi Q5 is offered with an Audi Drive Select system with settings for Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual, this system doesn’t quite compare to the Terrain Response system that comes equipped on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Terrain Response gives drivers different settings for General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, and Sand, each of which adapts the vehicle’s center differential, steering, gear ratios, brake system, and stability control.

Cargo Space

Both of these compact crossovers offer plenty of luxurious amenities, high-tech features, and standard seating for up to five, but the Land Rover Discovery Sport gives you more cargo room to work with than the Audi Q5. The Land Rover model features 32.7 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat, and you can fold down the rear seat to access a max cargo area of 66.9 cubic feet. The Audi Q5 only gets you 29.1 cubic feet in back and a max cargo area of 57.3 cubic feet.
