First Look: Range Rover Evoque Convertible
Update: the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible is here and ready to test drive!
Since its introduction in 2011, the Range Rover Evoque has been one of the most popular and award-winning small luxury SUVs in the world. It has been selected as Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year, North American Truck of the Year and World Design Car of the Year, among other honors. So with all of these accolades, how did Land Rover choose to respond? By designing a convertible version of this distinctive, stylish and imminently capable small SUV.
With what seems like an abundance of compact SUVs here in South Florida, the sporty and luxurious Range Rover Evoque is in a class of its own. With its unique styling, sumptuous interior and outstanding performance, the Evoque has quickly become a favorite among Florida drivers. As the Range Rover with the smallest physical size, the designers of the Evoque have still managed to pack in all of the luxurious appointments that you’ve come to expect from this premium car brand. Rather than being a stripped down version of its bigger brothers, the Evoque manages to offer all of the legendary Range Rover style and capability, just in a scaled-down size.
What to Expect in the Evoque Convertible
The 2017 Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be available in two trims – an SE Dynamic version and an even more luxuriously appointed HSE Dynamic version. Both will come standard with leather seating, 12-way electronic adjustable memory seats, 10.2-inch color touchscreen, premium audio system and more. The HSE will add navigation and upgraded interior trim to its standard features. Whichever Evoque model you choose, prepare to be wrapped in luxury from the moment you enter the vehicle.
As for appearance, the Evoque convertible will take on a slightly more sporty appearance than previous models, with a larger and curvier mesh grill, a new rear spoiler, a unique selection of wheel designs, and extended side skirts. It will also of course have a soft fabric convertible roof that stows in a space on top of the trunk compartment. The roof can be opened in just 18 seconds, and closed in 21 seconds, with the touch of a single button. There is a generous 8.9 feet of trunk space whether the top is open or closed.
Evoque Performance and Handling Features
Range Rover’s legendary off-road capability will also be standard equipment in the new 2017 Evoque convertible. As with current Evoque models, this convertible version will be able to scale 45-degree gradients, and cross through water up to 19 inches in depth. It will also come with Hill Descent and multi-mode Terrain Response selections standard.
The Evoque convertible will be powered by the same 2.0-liter engine as current models, and will sport a 240-horsepower output and 251 lb-ft of torque. Standard in the Evoque convertible will be a smooth shifting 9-speed automatic transmission, and standard 4-wheel drive. This combination will propel the new Evoque to 60 MPH in just 7.8 seconds.
